I have been involved in scouting most of my life. When I was 12, I had a wonderful scout leader. She walked me through Tenderfoot to First Class. Other great leaders and my mother pushed me along until I received my Eagle. After a mission for my church and a college degree, I married. We moved to Oregon and I was called as a Scout Master. Since that time I have served in the Scouts for more than 10 years. I have earned the Second-Miler Award and the District Award of Merit.
I enjoy the out of doors and spend many days a year camping. A few years ago while camping, my 15 year old son got lost. He was missing for about 5 hours. After he found his way back I began to think--How can this be prevented? How can we better find these children who are lost?
My brother and I researched and found a system that would last for a month without a recharge and would reach over 20 miles. This system was proven and could be easily implemented. So we built a carrying device and combined it with a radio transmitter and receiver. We then began training Search and Rescue personnel in the use of the system. We are excited about how well it has been received and hope that it will be widely used to keep Scouts and all outdoor explorers safe.

I am an outdoorsman. It runs through my veins. For as long as I can remember, I have been hunting, horseback riding, camping, repelling and scouting in the back country of the Western United States. I love ATV rides, fishing, scuba diving and canoeing. I have been involved in scouting since the age of eight and as a youth I earned my Eagle Scout Award. Having served as Scoutmaster, District Commissioner and Varsity Coach, I have seen many boys pass through the Scouting program and come out as men. I has been my honor to receive the District Award of Merit, the Scout Law Award and the Silver Beaver Award. I have attended Woodbadge and COPE Director Training at the Philmont Scout Ranch.
My Scouting experience is something that I draw from daily and remind the boys I deal with that they will do the same. I am convinced that the benefits of Scouting far outreach the risks taken when venturing into the back country.
We live in a day and age when technology exists to help keep boys and girls, leaders and outdoorsmen safe. Although we may be adequately taught and instructed on safety in the outdoors, we all may encounter situations either we hadn't planned for or which are beyond our control.
We are very proud to offer this technology. Our hope is that as the use of these tracking devices increases, the incidents that involve those lost or stranded in the wilderness will decrease. And at the very least, we believe that as you send your loved ones into the outdoor with the Wilderness Tracker transmitter, you will have greater peace of mind.
